Air India Express flight makes emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport after bomb threat

Ahmedabad: An Air India Express flight travelling from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to New Delhi was diverted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad and made an emergency landing on Monday after a bomb threat was reported onboard.

The flight took off at 10:25 am IST with 32 passengers and made the emergency landing at 4:22 pm. Following the landing, all passengers were evacuated and taken to the terminal building by bus. The aircraft was then moved to an isolated area as security agencies launched a detailed inspection.

It is learnt that a crew member found a suspicious note written in English on a piece of tissue paper while the aircraft was in the air. The note reportedly carried the word “BOMB”. The crew member immediately informed the pilot, who contacted the nearest airport and sought permission for an emergency landing in accordance with security protocols.

Following the emergency landing, airport authorities deployed emergency services, including the fire brigade, CISF, bomb disposal squad and dog squad. Security and technical teams conducted a thorough search of the aircraft, including the passenger cabin, seats and cargo hold.

All passenger luggage was also kept separately and checked as part of the security procedure.

No suspicious or explosive material was found during the initial search, providing relief to airport authorities. Security agencies are continuing their investigation to identify the person who allegedly left the threatening note and determine the circumstances behind the incident. DeshGujarat
