6 Kg Hydroponic Ganja Seized at Ahmedabad Airport; Myanmar Woman Held

Ahmedabad: Customs officials seized 6.07 kg of hydroponic ganja at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport after a narcotics sniffer dog alerted officers to a suspicious trolley bag.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs intercepted a female foreign national of Myanmar origin who had arrived from Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, based on passenger profiling, X-ray scanning and the dog’s signal.

A detailed search of her baggage revealed a specially created cavity inside the trolley bag, where officers found five vacuum-packed transparent packets containing a green substance. Preliminary tests confirmed it as hydroponic ganja, weighing 6,073.7 grams in total.

The passenger was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Customs officials said hydroponic marijuana, grown under controlled conditions and known for its relatively higher concentration of psychotropic substances, is in demand in certain circuits. They added that checks have been tightened to curb its smuggling through air routes. DeshGujarat
