Surat Civic Body Fines Hotel After Customer Finds Dead Insect in Dal Tadka

Surat: A dead cockroach was allegedly found in a food parcel purchased from Radhakrishna Hotel in the Piplod area, prompting the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Health and Food Department to conduct an inspection and impose a fine of ₹5,000 on the hotel operator.

The incident came to light after a local resident purchased dal fry for his family from the hotel and found a dead cockroach mixed with the cooked food after opening the parcel at home. The customer photographed and recorded the incident and subsequently lodged a complaint with the SMC, submitting the evidence to the civic authorities.

Acting on the complaint, an SMC Food and Safety team conducted a surprise inspection at the hotel and checked its kitchen and raw-material storage areas. During the inspection, officials reportedly found violations related to cleanliness and hygiene standards and imposed a ₹5,000 administrative fine on the hotel manager.

The civic team also collected samples of food items and ingredients used at the hotel and sent them to a public health laboratory for quality testing.

The SMC has issued a notice to the hotel management directing it to strictly comply with food safety, kitchen hygiene and pest-control norms. Officials have warned that repeated violations could invite stricter legal action, including cancellation of the hotel’s licence. DeshGujarat
