Gujarat Congress gets New In-Charge

Ahmedabad: Randeep Surjewala is new in-charge of Gujarat unit of Congress party. Surjewala is Congress party’s national general secretary and member of Rajya Sabha. He replaces previous Gujarat Congress incharge Mukul Wasnik. Gujarat is going to witness the general election of State assembly in December next year.
Born on June 3, 1967, Surjewala has had a long political career, having served as a Haryana MLA and cabinet minister, and held portfolios including Public Works, Parliamentary Affairs, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Information Technology.
He became the youngest Cabinet Minister in Haryana in 2005 and has also served as national president of the Indian Youth Congress and as a Congress general secretary. A lawyer by profession, he began practising in 1988 and has represented issues including those concerning farmers. In Haryana politics, he is known for defeating former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala in the 1996 and 2005 Assembly elections. DeshGujarat
