Heavy Rains Elude Gujarat: IMD Forecasts Light Showers Till Sept 11

Ahmedabad: Gujarat, which has been largely eluded by heavy rains over the past few weeks, is unlikely to see a spell of heavy rain over the coming week either. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state is likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers at several places over the next seven days.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places across North Gujarat, South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch through September 11. Ahmedabad and neighbouring areas are expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain likely.

The weather conditions are being influenced by a well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of northern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh. The system is likely to remain nearly stationary for the next two days, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

Furthermore, the monsoon trough continues to run from Sri Ganganagar and Narnaul through the centre of the low-pressure area over northern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh, Daltonganj and Berhampore, before extending eastwards towards Tripura.

An upper-air trough extending from south Gujarat to Jharkhand, passing through the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area and north Chhattisgarh, also persists between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level.

Meanwhile, a western disturbance persists as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies, with its axis around 5.8 km above mean sea level, roughly along 64°E and north of 32°N latitude.
