PM Modi to Inaugurate 326-km WDFC Sections Worth ₹20,703 Crore During Gujarat Visit

Vadodara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several railway development projects worth more than ₹30,766 crore during his visit to Gujarat on September 8, 2026. The projects are part of a larger package of development works worth over ₹35,200 crore to be launched at a programme at University Ground in Vadodara.

Among the key projects are three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering a total length of 326 km. These include the New Sanand (North)–New Makarpura section of 138 km, New Umargam–New Safale section of 86 km and New Safale–New JNPT section of 102 km. The three sections have been developed at a combined cost of ₹20,703 crore.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 259-km-long third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, at an estimated cost of ₹8,885 crore. The additional lines are expected to increase passenger and freight handling capacity and help ease congestion on the busy route connecting Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

In another major connectivity push, Modi will dedicate the Jobat–Tanda Road new rail line to the nation. Developed as part of the Chhota Udepur–Dhar railway project, the line will connect remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national railway network.

The foundation stone will also be laid for three railway projects spanning 329 km at a combined cost of more than ₹9,700 crore. These include the Vadodara–Ratlam third and fourth lines, Miyagam Karjan–Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion project and the Vishwamitri–Dabhoi doubling project.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate gauge conversion and doubling works on other railway routes and flag off new train services. These include a new train between Vadodara and Tanda Road, which is expected to benefit passengers from Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Alirajpur districts.

Freight train services will also be flagged off from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umargam and New JNPT in Mumbai, marking another step towards strengthening freight movement along the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

The railway projects are aimed at improving passenger and freight capacity, reducing congestion and strengthening rail connectivity across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. DeshGujarat
