Spain’s Gestamp expands India footprint with ₹523.7 crore Gujarat plant

Ahmedabad: Spain-based automotive components manufacturer Gestamp has expanded its Indian manufacturing footprint with the inauguration of its fifth production facility at Bhagapura in Detroj, taking its investment in the plant across two phases to ₹523.7 crore.

The new facility will manufacture engineered body-in-white (BiW) components and adds hot-stamping, laser-cutting and welding capabilities to Gestamp’s operations in India.

Spread across 31,790 square metres, the Bhagapura plant currently employs around 240 people. It features two hot-stamping lines, a laser-cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations.

Gestamp entered the Indian market in 2006 and began establishing its own manufacturing facilities in 2010. With the Gujarat plant, the company now operates five production facilities in India, three in Pune, one in Chennai and the new plant at Bhagapura.

The Bhagapura facility is focused on highly engineered BiW components, including products from Gestamp’s Ges-Gigastamping family. The plant has been designed to support manufacturing efficiency and flexibility, while an energy monitoring system will help identify and reduce inefficiencies in power consumption.

The company also plans to enter into agreements for purchasing electricity certified as being generated from renewable sources.

Gestamp said the plant has scope for future capacity expansion, subject to the required approvals. The investment forms part of the company’s selective global investment strategy, which focuses on growth markets while keeping overall capital expenditure under control.
