Worker Dead after Gas Leak at GSFC Plant in Vadodara

Vadodara: A 41-year-old contract worker at Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) died after allegedly inhaling carbon dioxide that leaked at the plant on Monday morning. Another worker was critically injured in the incident.

The leak occurred in the urea plant area around 11.30am. Police said Ghanshyam Gohil and 28-year-old Keyur Parmar were taken to a hospital following the incident.

“Prima facie, Gohil died after inhaling gas that leaked from a tank,” said Ravi Prajapati, police inspector, Chhani.

According to police, Parmar was the first to inhale the gas and collapse. Gohil, who was working as a supervisor, rushed to assist him but was also exposed to the gas and lost consciousness.

Parmar remains in critical condition. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the cause of the leak and whether the required safety measures were followed.

Gohil is survived by his wife and two children. His family refused to accept the body and demanded a detailed inquiry into the incident along with adequate compensation. DeshGujarat
