Gujarat Govt okays Rs 297 crore fisheries infrastructure projects in 3 coastal districts

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has given in-principle approval to three fisheries infrastructure projects worth Rs. 297.11 crore aimed at strengthening facilities for the state’s fishing industry and coastal fishermen. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani said.

The projects include:

Upgradation of Saiyad Rajpara Fish Landing Centre, Gir Somnath – Rs. 188.71 crore: Approximately 3,100 active fishermen and around 347 boats are associated with Saiyad Rajpara in Gir Somnath district. A centre with a capacity of 753 boats, expansion of the wharf wall, reclamation, C.C. roads/platforms, net-mending sheds and dredging facilities, among others, will be developed in phases.

Dredging at Porbandar Fisheries Harbour – Rs. 94.97 crore: Approximately 5,749 active fishermen and 4,194 FRP and trawler boats are operating at Porbandar. Dredging works will be undertaken in various areas through the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) to enhance the capacity of Porbandar Fisheries Harbour and facilitate smooth movement.

Development of Fansa Fish Landing Centre, Valsad – Rs. 13.43 crore: There are 1,318 active fishermen at Fansa in Valsad district. Physical and basic infrastructure facilities such as concrete surfaces, reclamation and solar LED street lights will be developed.

The projects are expected to facilitate round-the-clock movement of fishing boats, helping prevent fish spoilage and enabling fishermen to get better prices for their catch.
