NHAI to build interchange at Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway – SP Ring Road junction

Ahmedabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the construction of an interchange at the starting point of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, where it meets the Sardar Patel Ring Road (SPRR) in Ahmedabad.

Till now, there has only been a circle at this location, which could have become a traffic chokepoint as the expressway sees increasing movement.

The project has an estimated cost of ₹124.40 crore, excluding GST, and will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. According to the bid notice issued by NHAI, the project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months, while the maintenance period has been fixed at 10 years.

The interchange plan includes dedicated ramps and service roads to facilitate movement between the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the SPRR. The plan shows Ramp-1 connecting Bakrol towards Dholera and Ramp-2 connecting Dholera towards Sanathal, along with service roads on either side. The layout is designed to provide smoother connectivity between the expressway and the existing ring road network.

The bids will be opened on October 23, 2026.

The 109.019-km Ahmedabad–Dholera Greenfield Expressway (NE-8), inaugurated earlier this year, has boosted connectivity between Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar and the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). Built at a cost of ₹5,800 crore, the expressway has cut travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to around 45 minutes, while also improving access to the upcoming Dholera International Airport and boosting investor interest in the region.

Built with an environment-focused approach, the project has reused 60 lakh metric tonnes of municipal waste and 22 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash, alongside extensive plantation, highlighting how major infrastructure can combine faster travel with economic growth and environmental responsibility.
