75 fake ST caste certificates cancelled in Gujarat in 2 years: Govt

Gandhinagar: A total of 75 fake tribal certificates have been cancelled in Gujarat over the past two years following scrutiny by the Justice Kariya Committee, Tribal Affairs Minister Naresh Patel said in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

Responding to a question on the cancellation of fake tribal certificates, Patel said the state government is committed to protecting the rights of genuine tribal communities and ensuring that no one benefits from fraudulent certificates.

According to the minister, the Justice Kariya Committee cancelled 75 fake tribal certificates between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2026. Meanwhile, of the 1,776 applications received by the Gandhinagar-2 Analysis Committee, 619 have been disposed of.

Patel said the verification process is conducted with due seriousness, transparency and detailed scrutiny, considering that tribal certificates are linked to the education, employment and careers of young people.

If a certificate is found to be fake during verification, the Tribal Department informs the concerned department. The department then takes action as per the rules, including withdrawal of government jobs or other benefits obtained on the basis of the invalid certificate. DeshGujarat
