ACB Gujarat nabs GERI Class-I Executive Engineer, aide in bribe case

Amreli: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Thursday caught two officials of the Gujarat Engineering Research Institute (GERI), Vadodara, including a Class-I Executive Engineer, while allegedly accepting a Rs 21,000 bribe in Amreli.

The accused have been identified as Anandbhai Narendrabhai Kharedia, 52, a Research Officer (Executive Engineer), Class-I, and Jigarbhai Kalsingbhai Bhutia, 30, a Senior Scientific Assistant, Class-III, both with GERI.

According to the ACB, the complainant runs a materials testing laboratory in Amreli city. The two officials allegedly visited the laboratory during a surprise inspection and demanded Rs 21,000 in exchange for giving a favourable report following the inspection.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Amreli ACB, following which a trap was laid on Thursday.

During the operation at the Government Circuit House on Chital Road in Amreli, Kharedia allegedly instructed Bhutia to accept the bribe. Bhutia accepted Rs 6,000, while Kharedia allegedly accepted Rs 15,000, taking the total to Rs 21,000.

The ACB caught both accused on the spot and recovered the entire bribe amount of Rs 21,000. A case has been registered against the two officials for allegedly misusing their official positions.
