Slab of Under-Construction Building Collapses in Gandhinagar; 15 Workers Rescued

Gandhinagar: Around 15 workers were rescued from the debris after a portion of an under-construction commercial building collapsed in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday night.

The incident took place around 9.15 pm at Bosky The Empire, where construction work was underway. According to officials, the building had been constructed up to the third floor when a slab suddenly gave way, bringing down a portion of the structure.

Preliminary information suggests that the collapse may have occurred after a crane allegedly hit part of the ceiling during construction.

Rescue teams from the Gandhinagar Fire and Emergency Services, along with local residents and police personnel, rushed to the site and began searching through the debris.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who was in Gandhinagar for the ongoing monsoon session of the Gujarat Assembly, also reached the accident site as rescue operations continued late into the night.

After the workers were rescued, Sanghavi addressed the media and said, “A total of 15 people were rescued, of whom three have already been discharged. Twelve people sustained injuries, and some are in the ICU. However, according to the doctors, no one is in critical condition. It was a major incident, but all twelve injured people are safe.”

“The Chief Minister has instructed all departments to ensure that everyone receives proper treatment and care. Senior state officials are also present here and are actively carrying out their duties,” he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said, “Although the site manager has confirmed that no one remains trapped inside, we consider it our responsibility to continue rescue operations until all the debris has been cleared from the site. We have already initiated the rescue work. Medical treatment for the affected individuals is underway, and the debris removal process has also begun.”

The injured workers were admitted to GMERS Civil Hospital in Gandhinagar. The GVK-EMRI 108 emergency service deployed six ambulances to transport those rescued from the site.

Dr Meeta Parikh, Medical Superintendent of GMERS Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, said two patients had suffered spine injuries, while the remaining injured workers were reported to be stable. None of the patients was in critical condition.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya visited the hospital and said additional doctors had been called in to ensure that all necessary treatment was provided. He said efforts were being made to treat the injured at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital itself so that they would not have to be shifted to Ahmedabad for super-speciality care. DeshGujarat
