AMC Seals Oil Repacking Unit, Seizes 175 Tins Worth Rs 3.93 Lakh
September 11, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Safety Department has sealed an edible oil repacking unit in Lambha after finding serious food safety and traceability violations during an inspection on September 11.
The department seized 175 filled oil tins worth around Rs 3.93 lakh, suspended the sale of the existing stock and sealed the premises of M/s Mamta Agro Proteins at Adarsh Estate, Piplaj Road.
The unit, which holds a Central FSSAI licence, was found repacking soybean, cottonseed and palm oil. Officials also found around 300 used or old empty oil tins at the premises, raising concerns over their possible reuse for filling edible oil.
The inspection also found prima facie irregularities in the packaging and labelling of the oil products. The department said further scrutiny is underway under applicable FSSAI regulations.
Officials also found that the unit could not produce key batch, lot, repacking and dispatch records for oil that had already been distributed in the market. According to the Food Safety Department, the absence of such records makes it difficult to trace products back to their source and carry out targeted recalls if required.
Since the unit holds a Central FSSAI licence, the AMC will forward the inspection findings and evidence to the competent Central Licensing Authority/FSSAI and recommend appropriate action, including suspension or cancellation of the licence.
The AMC said inspections and legal action against food businesses will continue to ensure proper packaging and labelling, batch-wise traceability and the availability of safe food products to consumers. DeshGujarat
