IMD Issues Red Alert for Very Heavy Rains in Parts of Gujarat from Sept 12 to 15

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow alerts for Gujarat as several parts of the state are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days.

Till 8:30 am on September 13, very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Dang, Navsari and Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. An orange alert has been issued for these areas. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat and Tapi, for which a yellow alert has been issued.

On September 13, the most intense spell of rainfall is expected, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Navsari and Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. A red alert has been issued for these areas. Very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Amreli and Bhavnagar, where an orange alert is in place. A yellow alert has also been issued for Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Narmada, as well as Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

On September 14, an orange alert has been issued for Navsari, Valsad, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, where very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places. An orange alert is also in place for Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Diu. A yellow alert has been issued for Bharuch, Surat, Tapi and Dang, as well as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Botad and Kutch, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

On September 15, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu. No specific rainfall warning has been issued for September 16 to 18.

The broader seven-day forecast indicates light to moderate rain or thundershowers at several places across Gujarat until September 18, with rainfall activity gradually becoming more scattered. Ahmedabad is also likely to experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain until the morning of September 13.

The IMD has advised caution during thunderstorms, as lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places. It has also warned of waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas, traffic disruptions, falling trees and branches, crop and infrastructure damage, and lightning-related risks in areas receiving intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
