Gujarat Gets Widespread Rain After Prolonged Dry Spell; Taluka-Wise Rainfall Figures Here

Surat: Gujarat witnessed widespread rainfall on Saturday, bringing relief after a prolonged dry spell, with several parts of South and Central Gujarat recording moderate to heavy showers.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Umarpada in Surat district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 132 mm (5.2 inches) between 6 am and midnight. The taluka received 66 mm between 6 pm and 8 pm, followed by another 51 mm between 8 pm and 10 pm.

Ukai in Tapi district recorded the second-highest rainfall at 128 mm (5.04 inches), followed by Subir in Dang with 73 mm (2.87 inches). Ankleshwar in Bharuch received 71 mm (2.8 inches), while Bharuch taluka recorded 69 mm (2.72 inches).

Among the other areas that received around two inches of rain were Nadiad in Kheda (59 mm), Tilakwada in Narmada (56 mm), Anand (54 mm), Songadh in Tapi (53 mm), Jhagadia in Bharuch (52 mm), Morwa Hadaf in Panchmahal (52 mm), Nandod in Narmada (50 mm), Surat city (49 mm), Mangrol in Surat (49 mm) and The Dangs (49 mm).

Several other parts of South Gujarat also received significant rainfall. Hansot and Valia in Bharuch recorded 48 mm each, while Sagbara in Narmada received 46 mm. Sankheda and Kadval in Chhota Udepur recorded 43 mm each, while Uchchhal in Tapi received 42 mm.

The rainfall also extended to parts of Surat district, with Olpad recording 30 mm, Bardoli 38 mm, Kamrej 32 mm, Palsana 27 mm and Chorasi 24 mm.

In Vadodara district, rainfall remained comparatively light. Shinor and Dabhoi recorded 27 mm and 25 mm, respectively, while Vaghodia received 24 mm, Vadodara 21 mm and Karjan 18 mm.

Among the major areas in Ahmedabad district, Dholka recorded 13 mm, while Ahmedabad city received 12 mm. The rainfall brought some relief from the prolonged dry spell.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Sunday. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely in Bharuch, Surat, Tapi and Dang, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra.
