Ahmedabad City Gets Up to 3.2 Inches of Rain on Ganesh Chaturthi Morning; Ward-Wise Details Here

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad city received rainfall across several areas this morning as residents woke up to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Some parts of the city recorded more than 2 inches of rain between 6 am and 11 am, according to the latest Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) data.

The highest rainfall during the five-hour period was recorded in Lambha at 81 mm (3.19 inches), followed by Vatva at 79 mm (3.11 inches). Jodhpur Zonal recorded 71.50 mm (2.82 inches), while Dudheshwar received 69.50 mm (2.74 inches) and Jodhpur recorded 69 mm (2.72 inches). Sarkhej received 67.50 mm (2.66 inches), while Indrapuri recorded 65 mm (2.56 inches).

The city’s average rainfall between 6 am and 11 am stood at 32.39 mm (1.28 inches). The AMC data shows that the city received a total of 226.76 mm of rainfall across its rain gauges during this five-hour period.

Ward-Wise Highest Rainfall from 6 am to 11 am

The heavy spell brought dark, overcast conditions and strong winds to several parts of Ahmedabad, with visibility dropping considerably on major roads. Ground reports indicated difficult driving conditions, particularly along SG Highway, where sudden darkness and reduced visibility affected morning commuters.

Several areas in western Ahmedabad, including Helmet Circle, Gurukul Road, Gujarat University, Vijay Cross Roads, Andhajan Mandal, Satellite, Shivranjani, Vejalpur, Jodhpur, Prahladnagar and ISKCON, experienced intense downpours.

Waterlogging was reported in Prahladnagar, Jodhpur, Manekbagh and Helmet Circle, with some vehicles becoming stranded in accumulated water. At Manekbagh, vehicles had to be pushed through waterlogged stretches, while water also accumulated around Maninagar Aavkar Hall Circle.

The Mithakhali underpass was closed to traffic following the rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Ahmedabad until 1 pm, warning of very heavy rainfall during the three-hour period. The intense showers came amid a spell of widespread rainfall across the city on Ganesh Chaturthi morning.

Meanwhile, the Sabarmati river level has been maintained at 129 feet, while three gates of the Vasna Barrage have been opened by around one foot to regulate the water level.

Furthermore, in the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today, the city recorded an average of 44.15 mm (1.74 inches) of rainfall, according to civic data. A total of 309.08 mm of rainfall was recorded across the city’s rain gauges during the period.

Hanspura recorded the highest rainfall at 74.50 mm (2.93 inches), followed by Dudheshwar at 69.02 mm (2.72 inches) and Naroda at 64.50 mm (2.54 inches). Hanspura, Dudheshwar and Naroda were among the areas that received more than 2.5 inches of rain during the 24-hour period.

Several other parts of the city also recorded significant rainfall. Hanspura, Ranip and Navrangpura received 59 mm each, while Chandkheda recorded 59.50 mm and Kotarpur received 58 mm. Odhav recorded 56 mm, followed by Usmanpura at 52.50 mm and Bopal at 52 mm.

Following the morning showers, Ahmedabad’s seasonal rainfall total reached 711.64 mm (28.02 inches), which is 77.83% of the five-year average seasonal rainfall, according to the AMC report dated September 14.
