Gujarat High Court gets a New Judge

Gandhinagar: Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak on Monday, September 14, took oath as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court, following his transfer from the Orissa High Court.

Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal administered the oath of office to Justice Pathak at a ceremony held at the Gujarat High Court.

Gandhinagar: The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his transfer to the Gujarat High Court last month. The Central Government subsequently notified his appointment on September 5.

Born on August 28, 1965, in Guwahati, Assam, Justice Pathak completed his schooling in Guwahati before graduating in Arts from St. Josephs’ College, Bangalore. He later obtained his LL.B. degree from the then Government Law College, Panbazar, Guwahati, under Gauhati University.

He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on September 12, 1990.

During his legal career, Justice Pathak primarily practised in Civil, Constitutional, Land Acquisition and Service matters. He also served as Standing Counsel for the State of Tripura from 2004 until the bifurcation of the High Court. In addition, he was a member of the Law Commission, Assam, and the Indian Law Institute before his elevation to the Bench.

Justice Pathak was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on May 22, 2013, and became a permanent Judge with effect from November 12, 2018.

He was later transferred to the Orissa High Court, where he took oath on July 21, 2025. With his latest transfer, he now joins the Gujarat High Court.

Justice Pathak is scheduled to retire on August 27, 2027.
