Rainfall Where It Was Needed Most: Kutch Gets Heavy Showers After 70% Deficit

Kutch: Rainfall brought much-needed relief to Kutch on Tuesday, with the district receiving heavy showers after facing a 70.05% rainfall deficit this monsoon season as of Monday morning. Mandvi taluka recorded nearly 7 inches (177 mm) of rain between 6 am and 2 pm, while several other parts of the district also received significant rainfall.

According to the rainfall report issued by the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) on September 13, Kutch had received only 149.70 mm of rainfall against an average of 499.80 mm. This meant the district had received just 29.95% of its average rainfall, with a shortfall of 350.10 mm, resulting in a rainfall deficit of 70.05%.

The latest spell brought substantial rain to several talukas of the district. According to the SEOC, Gandhinagar, Mandvi recorded 177 mm (6.97 inches) of rain between 6 am and 2 pm.

Mandvi received 31 mm between 6 am and 8 am, followed by a heavy spell of 127 mm between 8 am and 10 am. Another 19 mm was recorded between 10 am and noon, while the total rainfall during the 6 am–2 pm period stood at 177 mm.

Other talukas also received significant rainfall. Abdasa recorded 53 mm (2.09 inches), while Mundra received 40 mm (1.57 inches). Nakhatrana recorded 33 mm (1.30 inches), Bhuj 32 mm (1.26 inches) and Lakhpat 23 mm (0.91 inches).

Other parts of Kutch also received rain, with Gandhidham recording 16 mm (0.63 inches) and Anjar receiving 14 mm (0.55 inches).

The rain was not confined to Kutch. In Devbhumi Dwarka, Khambhalia recorded 22 mm (0.87 inches) and Okhamandal received 18 mm (0.71 inches) during the same period.

Elsewhere, Nadiad in Kheda and Surat city recorded 14 mm each, while Sihor in Bhavnagar received 12 mm. Porbandar and Jamnagar recorded 9 mm each.
