Fire breaks out at Salasar Textile Market in Surat; 15+ fire tenders deployed

Surat: A fire broke out at around 10.30am on Wednesday at shops on the fifth floor of the Salasar Market in the Saroli area of the city, triggering panic among traders and people in the busy textile hub.

According to preliminary information, four shops were engulfed in flames. The shops reportedly stored large quantities of fabric, including polyester material, which caused the fire to spread rapidly and produce thick black smoke visible from a distance.

After receiving the alert, the Surat Fire and Emergency Services department rushed more than 15 fire tenders and fire personnel from different stations to the spot. Firefighters deployed hose lines and began efforts to contain the blaze from multiple sides.

No casualties have been reported so far. However, the fire is likely to have caused significant damage to stocks stored inside the affected shops. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, though a short circuit is suspected to be the preliminary reason.
