GujRERA seeks powers to regulate projects beyond notified planning areas

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (GujRERA) has asked the state government to expand its jurisdiction across Gujarat, citing a regulatory gap that leaves several real estate projects outside its oversight.

As per a report, GujRERA recently wrote to the state government seeking powers to regulate projects beyond notified planning and development areas.

Currently, RERA covers projects within municipal limits and areas under urban development authorities and other notified planning zones. Projects in villages falling within a notified master plan or development area are also covered.

However, projects in rural areas outside any planning authority are generally exempt from mandatory RERA registration, leaving buyers vulnerable to fraud and disputes.

Officials said disputes involving such projects are generally taken to consumer forums, limiting GujRERA’s ability to intervene.
