In-Charge Chief Fire Officer of Gandhinagar Nabbed by Gujarat ACB in Bribery Trap

Gandhinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat Police has nabbed Rajeshkumar Babulal Patel, the in-charge Chief Fire Officer of Gandhinagar, while allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe for issuing a Fire Safety Renewal No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The 55-year-old accused is a Sub-Fire Officer who was serving as the in-charge Chief Fire Officer (Class-I) with the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation’s Fire and Emergency Services.

According to the ACB, Patel allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from a citizen in connection with the issuance of a Fire Safety Renewal NOC. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at the Chief Fire Officer’s chamber at the Fire and Emergency Services office in Sector 17, Gandhinagar. During the operation, Patel was allegedly caught accepting the ₹20,000 bribe. The entire bribe amount was subsequently recovered from him.

The trap was conducted by M.J. Shinde, Police Inspector, Bharuch ACB Police Station, along with his team. Further investigation into the case is underway.
