Leopard sighting in Sanand: Forest Dept sets up cages

Sanand: The Forest Department has launched a search operation in Sanand after suspected leopard footprints were found near Moti Devti village on Tuesday. The development came after a dog was reportedly killed near a brick kiln.

Forest officials inspected the area after locals reported the footprints and the dog’s death. Cages have been placed in the area as part of efforts to locate and capture the animal.

Haresh Desai, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of the Sanand range, told the media that the department received information about a suspected leopard sighting in Moti Devti on September 15. “There is a strong possibility that the footprints found during the inspection belong to a leopard,” he said.

Desai said similar leopard footprints had previously been found near Moti Devti. “We have placed cages to capture the leopard. Since the new footprints were found in the same area, there is a possibility that the animal is still nearby, and our teams are conducting a search,” he said.

The latest incident comes after a series of leopard sightings in and around Ahmedabad and Sanand in July and August. DeshGujarat
