GIFT City rises to 37th globally in latest financial centres ranking in GFCI 40

Gandhinagar: Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India’s emerging international financial hub, has jumped nine places in the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 40) to rank 37th globally. Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, also improved, rising three places to 49th.

The latest GFCI report placed GIFT City among 15 financial centres worldwide expected to gain significant importance over the next two to three years, highlighting its growing role in the global financial ecosystem.

Published jointly by London-based Z/Yen Partners and the China Development Institute, the biannual index assessed 139 financial centres using 144 quantitative measures and 39,531 assessments from financial professionals.

Sanjay Kaul, Managing Director and Group CEO of GIFT City Company Ltd, attributed the progress to policy support from the Union and Gujarat governments, the regulatory framework established by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), modern infrastructure and the expanding financial-services ecosystem at GIFT IFSC.

The report also highlighted a broader shift towards emerging economies, with seven of the 15 high-potential financial centres in the Asia-Pacific region and five in West Asia and Africa. GIFT City also featured among the top 15 financial centres in the Asia-Pacific region. DeshGujarat
