IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rain in parts of Gujarat; thunderstorms across state

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for heavy rain at isolated places in parts of Saurashtra, forecasting heavy showers in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh and Devbhumi Dwarka over the next 24 hours.

The IMD said light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across the state over the next 48 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also possible at isolated places.

Ahmedabad is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain over the next 24 hours.

The weather system is linked to a low-pressure area over Saurashtra and the adjoining Northeast Arabian Sea, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

The IMD forecast indicates that rain activity will continue over Gujarat over the next few days, though the heavy-rain warning is currently limited to today.
