IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms in parts of Gujarat for next 24 hours

Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of Gujarat for the next 24 hours, with light to moderate rain also likely in several areas.

According to the IMD’s weather bulletin issued on Saturday, September 19, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph are very likely at isolated places in Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, as well as in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad, along with Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Meanwhile, rainfall intensity appears to have subsided across the state, with no prediction of heavy rainfall over the next seven days, till September 25.

Furthermore, the IMD said the southwest monsoon remained active over Gujarat during the past 24 hours, with heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm recorded at isolated places in Gir Somnath.

For Ahmedabad and neighbouring areas, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers until Sunday morning.

The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms, stay indoors where possible, avoid taking shelter under trees and unplug electrical appliances. People are also advised to stay away from water bodies and objects that conduct electricity. DeshGujarat
