Two Mumbai men booked for duping Vadodara firm of ₹37.16 lakh

Vadodara: A case of alleged breach of trust and fraud involving ₹37.16 lakh has been registered at Akota police station against two Mumbai-based men in connection with a transaction involving a Vadodara-based engineering company.

According to the complaint, Manan Davda, a resident of Vasna Road and director of Sukan Engineering Pvt. Ltd., located at Vanijya Bhavan in the Race Course area, hired Prashant Janardan Jamnik, a resident of Bhandup West in Mumbai. Jamnik reportedly told Davda that his company, Apco, had gone into liquidation. He was subsequently employed by Sukan Engineering at a monthly salary of ₹50,000.

Initially, Jamnik secured orders and helped the company generate profits, earning Davda’s trust. He later sought financial assistance for personal needs and allegedly received a total of ₹12.78 lakh in instalments from the company’s and Davda’s personal bank accounts. Jamnik had reportedly assured him that the amount would be repaid.

Later, Jamnik introduced Davda to Pravinkumar, who reportedly operated Rotork Valve Automation Company in Thane, Maharashtra, for the purchase of valves. The company offered the deal on favourable terms, following which a 50% advance payment was agreed upon.

Davda subsequently transferred ₹35.80 lakh to the bank account of Pravinkumar’s company. However, goods worth only ₹11.42 lakh were allegedly supplied, while goods worth ₹24.38 lakh were not delivered.

The alleged fraud came to light after Jamnik abruptly left his job without informing the company. He allegedly stopped responding to calls and switched off his phone.

Davda subsequently approached the Akota police, alleging that Jamnik and Pravinkumar had collectively caused a loss of ₹37,16,491. Police have registered a case against the two accused and initiated an investigation. DeshGujarat
