Video of rats inside McDonald’s outlet in Rajkot goes viral; civic body orders probe

Rajkot: A video has gone viral on social media showing rats roaming around the seating area of a McDonald’s outlet near Greenland Chowkdi in Rajkot, prompting the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s Health Department to order an investigation.

The video shows two rats moving across tables and benches in the customer seating area of the outlet. The footage appears to have been recorded from outside the restaurant through a glass window. The video also shows McCafé signage and menus visible in the background.

The presence of rodents in an area where customers are served food has raised concerns over hygiene and food safety. Rodents can contaminate food and surfaces and pose a public health risk, making effective pest control and sanitation essential at food establishments.

Rajkot Municipal Corporation Health Officer Dr Jayesh Vankani said the civic body came across the video on social media and directed officials to investigate the matter.

“Our team has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation. If any negligence by the establishment is found, action will be taken as per the rules. Any activity compromising public health will not be tolerated,” Vankani said.

Earlier controversy at another Rajkot McDonald’s outlet

This is not the first controversy involving a McDonald’s outlet in Rajkot. Previously, the chain’s outlet at Reliance Mall on Yagnik Road came under scrutiny after a customer alleged that non-vegetarian food was served despite placing a vegetarian order. The incident triggered a controversy at the time.

The latest video has once again brought questions over hygiene and food safety at McDonald’s outlets in the city into focus, with the municipal health authorities now examining the allegations.
