2 Gujarat cops injured in clash with ‘Bishnoi gang’ members during drug bust

Aravalli: The Special Operations Group (SOG) police fired two rounds in self-defence after suspected members of the Bishnoi gang allegedly pointed a revolver-like weapon at cops during an attempt to intercept a Scorpio car carrying a large quantity of poppy husk near Shinol village in Dhansura taluka on Tuesday.

The suspects, however, managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Two police personnel, police vehicle driver Prakash Singh and SOG PI P.B. Chaudhary, were injured after the Scorpio collided with the police vehicle and during the ensuing scuffle, police said.

Acting on specific information about the transportation of narcotic substances, the SOG team had set up a watch near Shinol and attempted to stop the suspicious black Scorpio. According to police, the occupants tried to evade the interception and repeatedly collided with the police vehicle.

The situation escalated when one of the suspects allegedly pointed a revolver-like weapon at the police, prompting Chaudhary to fire two rounds in self-defence. The suspects then fled from the spot amid the confusion and darkness.

Police seized the Scorpio along with the suspected poppy husk, also known as doda/post-doda, and launched a search operation for the two suspects.

SOG officials said preliminary information indicated that the suspects were associated with the Bishnoi gang. Their identities and the exact quantity of the seized narcotic substance are yet to be officially disclosed.

Aravalli district police chief Manoharsinh Jadeja reached the spot after the incident and reviewed the situation. Police have intensified checking and launched combing operations across the area, while alerts have reportedly been issued at checkpoints along the Gujarat-Rajasthan border to prevent the suspects from fleeing the state.

An investigation is underway to establish the source and destination of the suspected narcotics and the identities of the absconding suspects. DeshGujarat
