College student killed after crane runs her over in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A 19-year-old college student was killed after a crane hit her from behind near Silver Oak College in Gota on Tuesday. The driver fled the spot following the accident but was later apprehended by police.

The deceased was identified as Prerna Ninama, a first-year BSc student at Silver Oak College. According to police, she was walking from SG Highway when the crane, approaching from behind, hit her at around 11.53 am. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Following the incident, residents and passersby gathered at the spot and alerted the police. Prerna’s mother also reached the scene, following which the body was sent to Sola Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police said CCTV footage of the accident has emerged and is being examined as part of the investigation.

A.B. Mori, PI of the A Division Traffic Police Station, said the crane driver, who fled after the accident, had been apprehended. Police are also investigating the ownership of the crane and its destination at the time of the accident. DeshGujarat
