IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rain in five districts of Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in five districts of Gujarat and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall is likely in Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on September 23. The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers across the remaining districts of the state.

The weather department has also warned of light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, at isolated places across several districts.

The IMD also said that the southwest monsoon is continuing to withdraw, with conditions favourable for further withdrawal from parts of Saurashtra and Kutch over the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, a depression over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night of September 23 and early hours of September 24.

For Ahmedabad and neighbouring areas, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers till Wednesday morning.

The IMD has not issued any heavy rainfall warning for Gujarat after September 23 in its seven-day outlook. DeshGujarat
