Ahmedabad airport expansion: T3 demolition begins for new integrated terminal

Ahmedabad: Demolition of the T3 building at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport has begun to make way for a new integrated terminal building (NITB), marking a major step in the airport’s expansion.

The NITB is part of a phased redevelopment plan to raise the airport’s passenger-handling capacity to around 2 crore passengers annually, compared with nearly 1 crore at the existing T1 and T2 terminals. The new terminal is expected to be operational by 2029-30.

The first phase is being built adjoining the existing domestic terminal and extending towards the T3 side. Demolition of T3 and excavation work are under way, a TOI report stated, quoting a source close to the development.

The NITB will house domestic and international operations under one roof, with larger check-in areas, additional security checkpoints, expanded lounges and DigiYatra facilities.

The project is estimated to cost over ₹3,000 crore, according to submissions by the airport operator to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), though the final cost may vary. DeshGujarat
