CBI books Western Railway engineer for seeking bribes from trainees

Vadodara: The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Gandhinagar branch, has registered a case against Aditya Anand, Senior Section Engineer (Traction Distribution) in Western Railway’s Vadodara Division, for allegedly demanding bribes from trainees in exchange for illegal favours.

According to the FIR, Anand allegedly sought payments while serving as Senior Instructor at the Zonal Electrical Training Centre (ZETC) in Vadodara between December 29, 2025, and February 28, 2026. The FIR stated that the accused demanded and accepted money from trainees in exchange for extending undue official favours, including approval or regularisation of leave, marking absentees as present, manipulation of attendance records, passing candidates in examinations and avoiding adverse entries in official records.

The CBI traced ₹94,416 paid by a batch of trainees to bank accounts and multiple UPI IDs allegedly linked to Anand. ZETC officials later found discrepancies and corrected the records. Relieving letters issued to trainees also allegedly contained manipulated details and were signed by Anand.

Anand and others have been booked under relevant provisions of Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DeshGujarat
