Surat BRTS, city bus services to remain suspended on Sept 25

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will suspend BRTS and city bus services across Surat on September 25 in view of Ganesh idol immersion processions.

The civic body said the decision was taken as large-scale immersion processions are expected across the city, with traffic restrictions and diversions to be implemented at several locations. The move is aimed at ensuring passenger safety and preventing disruptions or untoward incidents during the immersion process.

According to the SMC, the city’s public transport network includes 385 BRTS buses operating on 13 routes along a 108-km dedicated BRTS corridor. Another 440 buses operate on 45 city bus routes, covering a total network of 418 km. More than 2.5 lakh passengers use BRTS and city bus services every day, and they will be affected by the suspension of services on Friday.

The suspension has been announced in connection with the Ganesh idol immersion scheduled for September 25 and follows a letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), dated September 2, regarding traffic arrangements for the immersion of Ganesh and other idols at artificial ponds and natural riverfront ghats.

Several key roads and junctions are expected to be affected, including Athwagate, SVNIT, Rahulraj Mall, S.K. Nagar, Old RTO T-point, Athwa Overbridge, Sardar Tapi Bridge, Adajan Village, Star Bazaar, Pal RTO, Bhatha Village, ONGC Circle, KRIBHCO Overbridge, Mora Circle, L&T, Hazira Butt Ovara, Gajera Ratnamala Circle, Dabholi Crossroads, Dabholi Bridge, Subhashbaug Circle, Dandi Road Jahangirabad, Canal Crossroads, Dandi Phatak Crossroads, Bhesan Crossroads, Parvat Patiya, Kabutar Circle, Bhathena Circle, Kharvarnagar Rokadiya Circle, Udhna-Magdalla Road, Sosyo Circle, Gandhi Kutir, Bhatar Overbridge, Bread Liner Circle, Anuvrat Dwar Bridge, Panas Canal, Vesu Canal Road, Raj Hans Crossroads, Abhva Crossroads and Hazira Highway Road.

The SMC said BRTS and CityLink services would also remain suspended in the S.K. Nagar Overbridge area and other affected localities.

The civic body has advised citizens and public transport users to take note of the suspension and make alternative travel arrangements for September 25. DeshGujarat
