3 family members drown during Ganesh Visarjan in Rajkot

Rajkot: Three members of a family, including a father and his son, drowned in a check dam in Rajkot after immersing a Lord Ganesh idol there. The incident took place around 7 pm on Wednesday near Jhiyana village.

According to Airport Police Station Inspector K P Taretiya, a family from Ranpur village had gone to the check dam to immerse the Ganesh idol. Following the immersion, two women and three men entered the water to take a bath.

The five reportedly ventured into deeper water and began struggling. While people present at the spot managed to rescue the two women, the three men drowned.

Fire department personnel later recovered the bodies from the check dam, police said.

The deceased were identified as Dhirubhai Chauhan, 50, his son Nayan Chauhan, 23, and their relative Narendra Chauhan, 30.

An accidental death report has been registered in connection with the incident, Taretiya said.
