Fire Helpline 101 Integrated with 112 in Gujarat; First Phase Rolled Out Across 6 Cities

Ahmedabad: Gujarat has become the first state in India to bring all major emergency services under a unified emergency response number, 112, covering police, medical, fire, women and child-related emergencies.

The fire emergency service, earlier accessed through 101, was integrated into the 112 emergency response system on Wednesday.

A senior EMRI official said that previously, fire-related calls made to 101 were handled by city-level control rooms, with information being passed on manually. Under the new system, fire emergencies will be routed through 112, enabling digital tracking of vehicle dispatch, arrival at the incident site, completion of the response and return of the vehicle.

In the first phase, the integrated system has been rolled out across six municipal corporations, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar.

The network currently covers 237 fire and rescue vehicles, officials said. DeshGujarat
