Gujarat ACB traps Irrigation Dept Head Clerk, Middleman in bribery case

Deesa: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday caught an irrigation department head clerk and his alleged accomplice while allegedly accepting a ₹50,000 bribe in Deesa, Banaskantha district.

According to the ACB, the complainant had applied for a contractor’s licence. The accused, Nimeshbhai Jashubhai Patel, Assistant Superintendent (Head Clerk), Class III, Irrigation Department, Dantiwada, Deesa, allegedly demanded ₹50,000 in exchange for processing and issuing the licence.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on September 24, 2026, at the Irrigation Department’s Dantiwada Canal Colony office in Deesa.

During the trap, Patel allegedly demanded and accepted the bribe amount, following which the ACB team caught him. The entire ₹50,000 was recovered from the spot. The alleged middleman, Chamanbhai Nanji Bhai Mistry, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar in Bhabhar, Vav-Tharad district, was also arrested in connection with the case.
