ED renews pact with NFSU Gandhinagar to expand cyber forensic capabilities

Gandhinagar: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has signed a renewed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, expanding their collaboration in cyber forensics and digital investigation capabilities, the law enforcement agency announced today.

The renewed agreement builds on the MoA signed between the ED and NFSU in 2021, under which NFSU helped augment the ED’s digital forensic capabilities through the establishment and maintenance of Digital Forensic Cyber Labs at various locations. The initial five-year term of the agreement has now been completed, and the new MoA will remain in effect for another five years.

Under the renewed MoA, NFSU will provide consultancy services for the establishment and upgradation of Cyber Forensic Laboratories for the ED at various locations across India. The collaboration will cover infrastructure development, advanced forensic tools, capacity building, training and technical support in digital forensics, cybercrime investigation and related areas.

NFSU’s School of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics has specialised laboratories and expertise in areas including digital forensics and cybersecurity. The university also undertakes consultancy, research and training in these fields.

The partnership will also support specialised short- and long-term training programmes for ED officers. These programmes are aimed at enhancing officers’ skills in the latest forensic methodologies and ensuring that the agency’s investigative capabilities keep pace with the evolving nature of financial and cybercrime.

The renewed collaboration is aimed at strengthening the ED’s technical and investigative capabilities in cases involving digital and cyber elements. It is also intended to support the agency’s mandate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999, and the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), 2018.
