Gujarat Government Steps In Over Uber, Ola, Rapido Driver Issues

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Transport Commissioner has convened a meeting with major app-based transport aggregators, including Uber, Ola and Rapido, following representations and strikes by driver unions in Ahmedabad over various issues concerning their operations.

The meeting is scheduled for September 28, 2026, at 11:30 am at the Office of the Transport Commissioner in Gandhinagar.

According to the meeting notice, representatives of the aggregator companies will be asked to provide explanations and clarifications on complaints raised by the unions. Representatives of the driver unions will also be given an opportunity to present their concerns before the Transport Commissioner.

Drivers associated with app-based transport services have been raising issues related to fares, earnings, company operations, treatment of drivers and other working conditions. The concerns came before the Gujarat Transport Department following strikes and representations submitted by unions in Ahmedabad.

The Transport Commissioner’s office has now brought the concerned parties together for a meeting to hear the representations of the driver unions and obtain responses from the aggregator companies.

The meeting is expected to be significant for drivers associated with app-based auto-rickshaw and taxi services in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat.

The unions listed for the meeting include: Gujarat Sarathi Sangh, Ahmedabad Rickshaw Drivers’ Unity Union (No. 85), Smart City Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union, Navyug Auto Drivers’ Welfare Association, Ahmedabad Taxi Drivers’ Union, Ahmedabad Railway Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union and Vadodara City and District Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union.

Meanwhile, local police addressed the group of drivers agitating against Ola, Uber, Rapido cabs to warn them against any attempt to stop the cabs. Police told them that unlawfull assembly case will be registered for violators. DeshGujarat
