ACB Gujarat nabs SMC security officer in bribe case

Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Monday caught a security officer of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) red-handed while allegedly accepting a ₹25,000 bribe.

The accused, Shailesh Manilal Parekh, is a Security Officer (Class-3) posted with the Watch and Ward Department of the SMC at Tapipura, Surat.

According to the ACB, the complainant’s wife was pregnant and required frequent medical visits. Parekh allegedly demanded ₹25,000 from the complainant in exchange for allowing him to leave duty during working hours to accompany his wife for medical visits and for not marking him absent or issuing a memo.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at the accused’s chamber at the Tapipura SMC premises in Muglisara on Monday.

During the trap operation, Parekh allegedly demanded and accepted ₹25,000 from the complainant. The ACB team subsequently caught him red-handed and recovered the entire bribe amount. DeshGujarat
