Thieves get trapped inside Surat factory after losing their way out, rescued by fire brigade

Surat: A theft attempt in the Khatodra GIDC area took an unexpected turn when two thieves who broke into a closed factory on Sunday night found themselves unable to locate the exit and became trapped inside. After wandering around the premises for hours, the duo eventually raised an alarm for help from the third floor.

Their cries alerted local residents, who informed the police. A fire brigade team was called in and rescued the two through a window using a ladder. However, their relief was short-lived, as police personnel were waiting for them outside and took them into custody.

The accused have been identified as Roshan Binbahadur Sahani, 18, a resident of Ashapuri Society in Pandesara, and his minor accomplice. The Khatodra police have registered a case against the duo and are questioning them to ascertain whether they were involved in any other thefts.

According to police, Sahani and the minor entered a closed factory on Bamroli Road in the Khatodra GIDC area, taking advantage of the Sunday holiday. The duo allegedly entered the premises with the intention of stealing valuables.

However, once inside, they lost track of the entry point while searching the dark factory for goods. Their attempts to find a way out proved unsuccessful, and they remained trapped inside for several hours.

As panic mounted, the two eventually reached the third floor of the factory. After spotting people outside through a window, they began shouting for help.

Hearing the screams, locals and passersby gathered outside the factory and alerted the police control room. A PCR van reached the spot and found that the factory was locked and the two were trapped on the third floor.

The police then alerted the fire control room. A team from Majura Fire Station, equipped with rescue gear and a ladder, reached the factory and carried out the rescue operation. The two were brought down safely through the window.

By the time they were rescued, both were reportedly drenched in sweat due to the heat inside the factory. Their relief, however, quickly turned into embarrassment when they found police personnel waiting for them.

The PCR team detained the two and handed them over to the Khatodra police, who are now investigating the attempted theft and their possible involvement in other cases.
