Customer films ‘stale’ potatoes, mushrooms at Barbeque Nation in Surat; video goes viral

Surat: A Barbeque Nation outlet in the Parle Point area has come under scrutiny after customers allegedly found rotten potatoes and foul-smelling mushrooms in its kitchen and recorded a video of the incident, which was later circulated on social media.

Food Department officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said they would inspect the premises and take action if any irregularities were found.

The video purportedly shows customers displaying blackened potatoes and mushrooms, which they alleged were stale and emitting a foul smell. A customer can be heard questioning the quality and safety of the food and alleging that the restaurant management failed to provide a satisfactory response to the complaint.

The incident has sparked discussion on social media over food safety and hygiene standards at restaurants. The video also appears to show some customers leaving their meals and getting up from their tables after finding the alleged stale items.

Food Department official Bhavesh Brahmbhatt said the department had not received any official complaint from a customer so far. However, after being informed about the incident, a team would conduct an on-site inspection.
