Centre OKays ₹991 Crore Kandla – Mundra National Highway Six-Laning Project

Ahmedabad: The Union Government has approved the upgrade of a 57.80-km stretch of National Highway 41 connecting Gandhidham (Kandla) and Mundra ports in Gujarat to six lanes at a cost of ₹991.19 crore, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced.

The highway stretch serves as a key freight corridor linking Deendayal (Kandla) Port and Mundra Port with industrial and agricultural markets in North India. The route handles more than 55,000 passenger car units (PCUs) of traffic daily, with a significant share comprising heavy vehicles transporting goods to and from the ports.

According to Gadkari, the project will include a new flyover, vehicle underpasses, reconstruction of major and minor bridges, and safety improvements at identified accident-prone locations. The widening work will be carried out within the existing right-of-way boundaries.

The upgraded highway is expected to reduce travel time by around 20%, lower logistics costs and improve the movement of goods between Gujarat’s ports and industrial and agricultural centres in North India.

The project is also expected to support trade, industry and employment in the Kutch region while strengthening Gujarat’s role in India’s maritime trade and logistics network. DeshGujarat
