Surat: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 480 grams of gold worth Rs 68 lakh from one Mahommad Arif Patel, a Bharuch resident, at Surat International Airport on Thursday.
Patel arrived from Dubai on an IndiGo flight and was intercepted by DRI officials based on specific intelligence inputs. The gold was recovered during a search of his luggage, and legal proceedings have been initiated under customs laws.
The DRI is investigating possible links to a gold-smuggling syndicate, examining the source of the gold, its intended recipients and Patel’s travel history to identify potential associates. DeshGujarat
