Navratri: Garba Enthusiasts Keep Fingers Crossed as IMD Forecasts Rain in Parts of Gujarat on Navmi
October 19, 2026
Ahmedabad: Today marks the final night of Navratri, with khelaiyas ready to dance to their hearts’ content to the tunes of Garba. However, rain could play spoilsport at some places in Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain or thundershowers in isolated parts of the state until 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 20, while dry weather is expected across Gujarat for the remainder of the week.
The IMD has forecast light rain or thundershowers in Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Navsari, Valsad and Tapi districts in South Gujarat, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra, during the next 24 hours. Rain is also likely in Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Cyclonic circulation, trough may influence rainfall
According to the IMD’s synoptic analysis, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan and adjoining areas, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, continues to persist. A trough extending from southwest Rajasthan to the northeast Arabian Sea at around 3.1 km above mean sea level is also persisting.
These atmospheric systems, along with prevailing northerly to northeasterly winds over Gujarat, may contribute to the localised rainfall activity forecast in parts of the state.
The IMD has also reported a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Arabian Sea, along with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.6 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to intensify into a depression over the same region within the next 24 hours and is expected to move towards the Somali coast over the following two to three days.
Dry weather is expected across Gujarat from Tuesday onwards, with no weather warnings issued for the state during the seven-day forecast period.
The weather department has also forecast no significant change in maximum or minimum temperatures across the region over the next seven days.
In Ahmedabad, mainly clear skies are expected until Tuesday morning, October 20. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 38°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 24°C.
