Ahmedabad: Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 20.1 lakh from a passenger arriving from Dubai at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Monday after detecting a suspicious patch concealed inside the passenger’s trolley bag.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the passenger based on targeted profiling and surveillance. During a detailed inspection of the passenger’s cabin baggage, officers found a cloth patch discreetly attached inside the trolley bag, raising suspicion.
A closer examination revealed that gold paste had been concealed as a layer on the cloth patch, according to an official release issued by the Customs department.
After extracting and melting the concealed material, officials recovered 133.4 grams of pure 24-carat gold. The gold was subsequently seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The 29-year-old passenger from Uttar Pradesh has been detained, and further investigation into the case is underway. DeshGujarat
