Ahmedabad RTO Software Glitch Hampers Vehicle Ownership Transfers
October 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: A technical glitch in the Regional Transport Office’s (RTO) online system is delaying ownership transfers of cars and two-wheelers registered before 2017, inconveniencing residents who purchased used vehicles during Navratri and Dussehra.
The online ownership transfer form now requires applicants to enter wheelbase details, which are often unavailable in the registration records of older vehicles. Since the field is mandatory, applicants cannot complete the digital process, forcing them to make repeated visits to RTO offices and, in some cases, incur additional expenses.
The wheelbase is the distance between the centres of a vehicle’s front and rear wheels. Older vehicle registration documents may not include this measurement, leaving buyers unable to proceed with the ownership transfer application despite having the necessary documents.
The issue has added to the cost and inconvenience of buying second-hand vehicles, which are often chosen as a more affordable alternative to new ones.
Affected vehicle owners have urged the authorities to resolve the software issue or provide an alternative procedure for transferring ownership of older vehicles. They said a simpler process would reduce unnecessary visits to RTO offices and prevent additional financial and administrative burdens on applicants. DeshGujarat
