Farmer ‘Abducted’ Over Land Dispute; Ex-Gujarat Congress Chief Mentioned in FIR

Ahmedabad: A farmer was allegedly abducted from the Gandhinagar sub-registrar’s office over a dispute concerning the sale of agricultural land in Khoraj village, according to a complaint filed by his wife at Adalaj police station.

The complainant named three men, Ravi Thakor, Gabhu Rabari and Baldev Rabari, alleging that they attempted to force the family to sell the land to Congress leader Jagdish Thakor. She said the property was registered in the names of her father and other family members.

According to the complaint, the family had agreed to sell the land to two buyers, Ratilal Patel and Harishsinh Gohil. However, Ravi Thakor allegedly threatened the family and insisted that the land be sold to Jagdish Thakor instead.

On August 29, the complainant, her husband Popatji Thakor, her brother Harshad Thakor and other family members went to the sub-registrar’s office in Sector 11, Gandhinagar, to complete the sale deed formalities. The complaint alleges that Ravi Thakor arrived with Gabhu Rabari and Baldev Rabari and threatened the family against proceeding with the transaction.

The three men allegedly forced Popatji and Harshad into a vehicle and took them away. The complainant said her brother was later dropped off near Vaishnodevi on SG Highway, but her husband remained missing. She also alleged that Ravi Thakor threatened her with serious consequences if she approached the police.

The family searched for Popatji but was unable to locate him, the complaint stated.

Former Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor, whose name figures in the complaint, denied wrongdoing in a video statement, describing the allegations against him as a political conspiracy. He said the dispute concerned a family land deal reportedly valued at ₹4 crore, but claimed that only 30% of the co-owners had consented to the sale.

Jagdish Thakor further alleged that some farmers had been pressured into signing documents and said Ravi Thakor had brought the affected farmers to him for discussions. He added that he was willing to cooperate with the police if summoned.
