Gujarat to Add Official Seals to Digital Certificates, Saving Citizens’ Office Visits

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has decided to display official round seals and details of the competent issuing authority on certificates and attestations issued through digital portals, reducing the need for citizens to visit government offices separately to get documents stamped.

According to a circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on October 21, 2026, the state government will take the necessary steps to incorporate the seals and relevant office details into digitally issued documents in accordance with applicable laws, rules and instructions.

Currently, e-certificates obtained through digital portals do not carry the official round seal of the issuing authority, requiring applicants to visit the concerned office to get them stamped. The proposed arrangement aims to eliminate this additional step, save time and effort, and reduce delays in service delivery.

Initiative to Support Digital Gujarat 2.0

The move is part of the state’s efforts to simplify government services under Digital Gujarat 2.0. The government has undertaken Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) and Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) initiatives to streamline procedures for frequently used public services.

Under the proposed system, the official seal and details of the office of the competent authority approving the certificate will be displayed on the document. The initiative aims to support a ‘digital-by-default’ approach and make service delivery more accessible and paperless.

Benefits for Citizens

The proposed changes are expected to reduce additional visits to government offices for certificate stamping, saving citizens time, travel and effort. Displaying the official seal and issuing authority’s details on digital documents will also help clarify their origin and facilitate identification.

Departments to Coordinate for Implementation

As per the GAD circular, the concerned departments will take the necessary steps in consultation with the Department of Science and Technology. After the required departmental procedures are completed, technical changes will be made to the relevant digital portals to implement the system.

The initiative is intended to simplify the process of obtaining and using digitally issued certificates while reducing additional administrative formalities for citizens. DeshGujarat
