Anand: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday caught a police inspector posted at Anklav police station in Anand district while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a citizen.
According to the ACB, the accused, Rajdeepsinh Bhagvatsinh Vanar, a Class-II police inspector, allegedly demanded the bribe after summoning the complainant to the police station and threatening to shut down his factory over alleged pollution. The inspector initially demanded a 1.5-tonne air conditioner but sought ₹40,000 in cash after the complainant refused to provide one.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anand ACB police station. Acting on the complaint, an ACB team laid a trap inside the inspector’s chamber at Anklav police station. The inspector was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the full amount of ₹40,000.
The ACB said the inspector had allegedly abused his official position to demand and accept the bribe. The trap was led by R. N. Virani, a police inspector at the Anand ACB police station, along with his team. DeshGujarat
